Finding a Mentor and Becoming a Leader
Approved 0

At the age of 35, Jim “The Rookie” Morris defied the odds and made it to the big leagues. His inspiring journey from high school science teacher to MLB was immortalized in the Disney movie The Rookie, starring Dennis Quaid.

Jim spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, reaching pitching speeds up to 102 mph, but he chose to retire to focus on raising his children. In his book, Dream Makers: Surround Yourself with the Best to Be Your Best, Jim highlights the people who helped him along his journey…his Dream Makers.

At SEAA’s convention, Jim will focus on how to be a mentor of high integrity and character. By helping others achieve their dreams and surrounding yourself with inspirational people, you create the best chance for success for everyone. He tells his own story of defeat while believing the wrong kind of people. In contrast, success followed when surrounded by people who helped him believe in himself.

Jim has earned numerous accolades. His philanthropic work includes several organizations that support underserved communities and children. Jim and his wife, Shawna, strive to lead lives filled with inspiration, service, and dedication to helping others."
